Dar Si Said Museum

Musée national du tissage et du tapis Dar Si Saïd

Dar Si Said Museum, Marrakech: opening hours, ticket prices and tips for the national museum of weaving and carpets in a 19th-century house.

Dar Si Said is a 19th-century house on Derb El Bahia, off Riad Zitoun Jdid, now the national museum of weaving and carpets.

It was built in the second half of the 19th century for Si Said Ben Moussa, minister of war under Sultan Moulay Abdelaziz (1894–1908). In 1930 it passed to the fine arts administration, and from 1957 part of it became a museum of traditional art.

Look at the carpets and weavings from every region of Morocco: high-pile rugs, hanbels, blankets, the akhnif cloak and handira wraps. There is also woodwork, jewellery, pottery, arms and a few archaeological pieces.

It is quieter than the Bahia next door. Labels are short, so the rugs do most of the talking.

Good to know

  • It pairs well with the Bahia Palace, a few minutes away.
  • Closed on Mondays, unlike most sights nearby.
