Maison de la Photographie
Maison de la Photographie, Marrakech: opening hours, ticket prices and tips for the medina museum of early photographs of Morocco.
The Maison de la Photographie is a private museum in an old house near Ben Youssef. Hamid Mergani and Patrick Manac'h opened it in 2009.
The collection is old photographs of Morocco, from the late 19th century to the 1960s, with glass plates, postcards and documentary film. Donations from other collectors have added to it.
Go for the portraits and the views of villages and kasbahs as they were. Exhibitions change, so part of the house is always rehung.
The rooms are small and the captions are short. It suits an hour, not a morning.
Good to know
- Upper floors are reached by stairs.
- Pair it with Ben Youssef Madrasa, a few minutes away.
