Le Jardin Secret

Le Jardin Secret, Marrakech: opening hours, ticket prices and tips for the restored palace gardens and tower in the Mouassine medina.

Le Jardin Secret is a walled palace garden on Rue Mouassine, in the middle of the medina. The district was laid out under the Saadian sultan Moulay Abdallah in the second half of the 16th century; the Saadian palace here was pulled down late in the 17th.

In the mid-19th century Kaid al-Hajj Abdallah U-Bihi built a new palace on the old plan. It later passed to a judge, then to Muhammad Loukrissi, who lived here from 1912 until his death in 1934. After that it fell into ruin.

Restoration began in 2008 and the garden opened to the public in 2016. There are two gardens to walk through, pavilions with carved cedar and stucco, and a tower with a view across the medina roofs.

It is small, and busy in the middle of the day. The tower costs extra and its stairs are narrow.

Good to know

  • Personal photos are allowed; professional shoots need permission.
  • Two cafés inside serve drinks and light dishes.
  • The tower is the only part with steep stairs.
