Jardin Majorelle
Jardin Majorelle, Marrakech: opening hours, ticket prices and tips for the blue garden of Jacques Majorelle and Yves Saint Laurent.
Jardin Majorelle is a walled garden of about 9,000 square metres on Rue Yves Saint Laurent, just outside the medina walls. The French painter Jacques Majorelle began planting it in 1922 and kept at it for forty years.
Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé bought it in 1980 to save it from hotel developers, and renamed Majorelle's villa the Villa Oasis. The Pierre Bergé Museum of Berber Arts now sits in Majorelle's old studio.
Look for the cactus beds, the bamboo walks, the lily ponds and the studio painted in the deep blue that carries Majorelle's name.
It is small and very popular. Tickets are timed and sold online only, and by late morning the paths are crowded.
Good to know
